Community Driven Skills Education
WE Education is a community driven skills education program that’s dedicated to giving students the agency and skills they need to become change makers in their communities and revitalize Pittsburgh as a whole. We envision a world where all people, regardless of their backgrounds, will be able to achieve the progress they want to see in their lives.

WHAT WE DO
WE Education is a one year long program based in Homewood, Pittsburgh, with three months each of digital literacy, financial literacy, and civic literacy. This skills training with culminate in a three month long community development project that our fellows will take on themselves.
DIGITAL LITERACY
In the first module, digital literacy, fellows will learn computer fluency, different software, and basic coding skills. They will learn these skills through project based, individualized learning, and come out of the module with a tangible term project as well as newfound computer fluency and a familiarity with the software that they used to create their project.
FINANCIAL LITERACY
In the second module, financial literacy, fellows will apply their newfound digital literacy skills to financial planning. In this module, fellows will use software to plan for their financial future, learn to set financial goals, and understand financial documents. At the end of the module, each fellow will have their own five-year financial plan and an active bank account.
CIVIC LITERACY
Finally, fellows will learn how they can affect change in their communities using the skills they’ve just learned during the civic literacy module, through applied and affirmative teaching. By the end of the civic literacy module, fellows will have registered to vote and created their plan for their individual three-month long community development project.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
Each fellow, guided by a mentor, will then enact their chosen community development project during the fourth and final module of the program. This can be anything from hosting an event, building an app, or an internship with a community organization or local business. By the end of the program, fellows will have a placement - whether that's college, a job, or an internship.
ABOUT US
Satvika Neti is the Executive Director for WE Education. She's working as a Coro Fellow in Public Affairs this year and is placed with the YWCA Greater Pittsburgh, helping plan their 150th anniversary celebration. Coming out of Carnegie Mellon University with a B.S. in International Relations and Politics and a minor in Computer Science, she hopes to find new and innovative ways to merge technology with the social sector. She has experience working in policy and politics, and with many community organizations in Pittsburgh. neti.satvika@gmail.com
Zora Gilbert is the Program Director for WE Education, and they care a lot about words, kids, and comics. Recently graduated with a B.A. in Linguistics from Carnegie Mellon University, they currently serve at the Braddock Youth Project as the Media Coordinator and as a member of a KEYS Service Corps. When they aren’t working at BYP or on WE, they edit and publish all-ages queer comics as part of Margins Publishing (marginspublishing.com). gilbert.zora@gmail.com
